Help!!! : command alias craziness :(

Added by Jonah Barnett over 7 years ago

Hi. Let me say first how excited i am that a voxel system is finally coming to Rhino! This has really been wanted for a long time. My first impressions of Maker version are quite good. It seems to be stable, easy to learn, and feels very native to Rhino. I work in the jewelry industry and we have several licenses of Freeform (with the robotic arms), but always hoping to stay inside of Rhino to do this work, and not be tethered to a robot...

But - i must discuss a problem which immediately gave me a little headache! Like many Rhino users, we assign alias names to call our custom scripts, macros, or various functions. Your plugin commands have assigned alias names which directly conflict with many of my own alias names! So every time i call my alias, your function is running instead of mine. It is a big problem and causing interference with my workflow. I'm sure will hear more of the same complaint by future users. So I ask you to consider another solution. Perhaps one of the following:

1) In SymVol advanced options, have a checkbox to disable SymVol's command aliases. To be honest I don't think it is necessary to have them...
2) Allow full customization of SymVol aliases...
3) Don't include any command aliases, as Rhino already has it's own system for this...

Good luck with this software! I'm watching eagerly for more news of the Pro version, especially with conversion from mesh to voxels, and robust booleans, shelling, etc... :)

Hi Jonah,

Thanks for your post and glad to hear you are excited about Symvol. Regarding the alias names conflict, the issue has been posted to our internal bug tracking system, so we will look into this and release a fix ASAP.

Just wanted to let you know we have this fixed (it is part of installation now and adds the aliases in the standard way) and it will be in our next update to Maker.

Thanks for the update, and for resolving the alias issue... :)
Is there a webpage where you list all the changes for each beta release?
